Animal-Assisted Therapy for PTSD: A Literature Review

This is a 16-page literature review (not including cover/reference pages) exploring the use of Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) as an adjunct to traditional therapy, specifically in the treatment of PTSD.

​This project demonstrates my ability to review available research and integrate findings into a cohesive presentation.  Additionally, this project has informed my current work at my internship and will continue to inform my future practice.

Title:
Group Therapy Proposal: Female Veterans and PTSD

This is a 31-page paper (not including cover/references) detailing a proposal for a 6-week group therapy program for Female Veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
 
As this was a group project, this required planning, time management, and interpersonal skills in order to successfully reach our goal.  This paper demonstrates my attention to detail as I was the editor and compiled my group member’s contributions into one cohesive document.  This paper also demonstrates my dedication to life-long learning in that during the course of completing this assignment, my group members and I researched current evidence-based practices as well reviewed the current research as it related to our selected population.

This is a 3-page paper (not including cover/references) in which the contexualized sexuality model (CSM) is applied to a young couple.
 
The CSM is a holistic, ecological model that takes into account many factors when exploring an individual’s (or couple’s) presenting concerns. This paper demonstrates my ability to think holistically as a practitioner and take into account the broader context within my client’s world.

This paper demonstrates my ability to understand how an individual’s sexual identity interacts with one’s other identities (gender, race, spiritual, etc) and these intersections can influence career decisions.

This is a 5-page paper highlighting the lack of education and understanding surrounding human sexuality.

​This paper demonstrates my ability to understand complex topics often considered taboo.  There is still a high level of prejudice faced by individuals that do not fit the what much of society considers “normal” and it is important for me to be aware of the many possible challenges our clients may face as it relates to sexuality.

This is a 3-page paper (not including cover/references) detailing my role as a hypothetical consultant to a school seeking to improve relations and experiences for their LGBTQ community.
  
This paper demonstrates my commitment to the inclusion of minority populations, in this case the LGBTQ community as well as my ability to research and apply what I’ve learned to the current situation. I am capable of utilizing established resources such as the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Educations Network (GLSEN), and well educated on the challenges facing LGBTQ youth.

CNS 762: Issues in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

This is a 2-page paper (not including cover/references) describing my experience witness a court proceeding through the lens of a mental health professional.

This assignment demonstrates my ability to recognize the limitations of our legal system and short-comings when it comes to mental health.  The knowledge I gained from this assignment inspired me to learn more about our criminal justice system and the importance of advocating for more mental health services in all sectors of our society.
